VFR briefings emphasise visual minima, ceilings and VFR-into-IMC risk. IFR briefings cover approach minima, icing and enroute IMC factors.
Tells the briefing what level of detail and operational context to use.
US uses FAA conventions (statute miles, inches Hg). Other regions use ICAO (km, hPa, metres).
